Why these three? Well they play so well together, in fact, you can use them all at once to allow three different animations to overlay (run at the same time).
Now I know many of you would already be fairly familiar with overlays using Paul’s Reaction Tester thanks to JD’s tutorial. Those who have not run across that link before, make sure you get over there ASAP. It’s a little awkward to get used to, but once you do, it’s fantastic.
For example, these are two overlays using Paul’s Reaction Tester (PRT) and the OFB Reaction Tester (OFB). On the left is PRT: laugh strong + OFB: hangout/sitcrosslegged and on the right is PRT: watch distressed + OFB: overlay/plead.

Now this in itself expands options enormously, but I stumbled across another way to overlay animations. Again, some of you probably already know this, but I have never seen a tutorial done on this, so I thought I might share here. Now on to the triple overlay.
Essentially, you start with an animation that utilises the lower half of your sims body in a fixed position, like “hangout” or “watch clouds”. Now you all should recognize the following poses as the hangout-layback and the hangout-relax animations, both are from the OFB Reaction Tester.

To do an overlay, pause your game, cancel the first animation and cue up any of the non-seated specific animations from Decorgal’s Sitting Talk/Conversation Hack (Talk), such as reaction neg, action pos, listen neg mild, argue or reaction pos. Now un-pause your game and your sim should now keep its lower body position and start the new animation with the upper half.
This image is, on the left OFB: hangout-layback(cancelled) + Talk: listen neg mild/shy body hold and on the right OFB: hangout-relax(cancelled) + Talk: argue/fists grr.

The final overlay can be added by using Shaklin’s WalkStyle Facial Animation Changer. Just pause your game and select and of the facial animations. Start up again and this will override what facial expression your sim has. The next image shows the same overlay animations as above plus “laugh” on the left and “surprise” on the right.

That’s it. Easy peasy.
Now just as a note, the Shaklin animations have to finish before you can start another one, but you can cue up multiple animations from the Sitting Talk/Conversation Hack and it will continue to run them without your sim popping out of that original position.
I thought I might throw in a few more images from my story
PRT: ? + OFB: overlay/plead

PRT: cry mild + OFB: elevator reject-ee

OFB: hangout-relax(cancelled) + Talk: shy fidget

OFB: hangout-crosslegged(cancelled) + Talk: ? = Shaklin: tired

So what are you waiting for? And I want to see results!

Walk style
I must say, I found it, downloaded it (I think it was the right file) but can't figure out how to make it work. Where do I find the animation? Is it an object? A menu on the Sim?sorry...I'm such a noob...

Re: Walk style
Not to worry, it shows up as a pink flamingo (decorative/misc I think). I pretty much just use the facial animation bit, but it does have a few other options.Though seriously tempting, don't click invisible it turns the flamingo invisible. I find it’s easier to move it clear of a shot rather than try and find it again once you can't see it.And you get pics (sorry about the weird colour, I just went to the last lot I did a photo shoot in)…
The facial animation override works best if selected after another animation has started. I find since many of the facial overlays are strong expressions; use the slowmotion cheat (I generally use 5), and select the facial animation just before the shot you want to take. That way you get the impression of the emotion without the weird faces.

Re: Walk style
Well thank you so much! That is extremely helpful! I installed some hack that is supposed to create less animated facial expressions but it doesn't seem to have any effect on my sims at all. The slow motion however, is a life saver. And of course I still don't get the overlay combinations yet despite the numerous posts with explicit instructions. Still finding my way with all of it. I am surprised I get any animations to work! LOL!

Re: Walk style
I know which one you mean, and it really only effects the super expressive animations. It's probably of most use to machinima makers. The overlay in Jaydee's tutorial took me ages to get right, I was nearly ready to give up when it finally worked. Some of the overlays I describe also take a bit of a knack to get used to them, but most of them it's just getting the timing right. Like the one in this tutorial, it's all in learning exactly when to cancel out the first animation, but once you have it, it all falls into place.

Re: Walk style
Can you tell me how to download the sims 2 hacks. I am having a hard time downloading one.Every time I download one of the hacks it always say Windows cannot open this file I realy want to knowJanuary 15 2008, 05:13:11 UTC 4 years ago
Re: Walk style
Sure, no worries. The hacks all work the same way any other custom content works, so you have to save them to your computer and then extract them to the downloads folder of your game. If you have not installed any custom content into your game before, check out this tutorial, they can explain how to do it in much better detail than I ever could.March 25 2008, 13:36:43 UTC 4 years ago
